At the Mosaic Minds Art Academy , our goal is to offer high-quality affordable Art classes for both children and adults. Our classes are progressive with an emphasis on Art history, terminology as well as technique. As they progress, our students will add work to a growing professional Fine Arts portfolio. Consistent attendance is an important factor for your class to be a success.

Home School Art Enrichment   Instructor: Summer King 

Course Description:

Students will study artists who utilize specialized processes, boundaries and strategies to guide and develop their work. Each month students study a new artist and experiment with a variety of art mediums including chalk, charcoal, acrylic paint, papier mache, watercolor, oil, pen and ink and clay to name a few. In-class critiques and open discussion will reinforce and challenge the students as a vital part of their creative development. Heavy emphasis on Art history, technique and terminology. Painting history and theory will be referenced throughout our time together.

Semi-annual student Art show and silent auction, Field trips, art contests and community involvement are all included in this course.

Live and interactive art class with artist Summer King. Students get the same in-class experience as our homeschooled and after school students. Service provided by "Zoom" meetings. Students will study artists who utilize specialized processes, boundaries and strategies to guide and develop their work. Each month students study a new artist and experiment with a variety of art mediums including chalk, charcoal, acrylic paint, papier mache, watercolor, oil, pen and ink and clay to name a few. Introduction to Comic Art

Beginners course for adults designed for those who have no or little experience in watercolor, this course will focus on getting comfortable with watercolor painting techniques and enjoying the process of painting.  The basics of materials, tools, techniques, color, value and “seeing” your subject will be explored. This class is fun and relaxed and will focus on how to enjoy the process of painting.

Acrylic Painting 

This course is designed for beginners and those who have minimal painting experience. Students will learn the basics of handling acrylic paints and brushes and explore a variety of techniques and a variety of subject matter. This class covers the fundamentals of composition, tone, and blending colors.

Fantasy Art Drawing    

Instructor: Tami Hughes

Ages 11+

Course Description:

There are as many ways of making illustrations as there are roads to Rome. Students will learn to adapt the instructors ideas to their own skills, reshaping the concept and choosing those paths that will help find their own method, students will feel more comfortable and more satisfied with the results they obtain. Drawing will include mythical creatures like Unicorns, Gargoyles, Dragons, Mermaids and more. Step-by-step guidance by our skilled instructor. 

GOALS

To prepare students to draw effectively by learning the basics in fantasy art.

Create a story for each piece designed to make the piece more personal.

To better understand design and layout each piece of art from start to finish.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Go over basic ideas up to advanced drawing concepts. 

Carry out exercises of differing methodology and complexity.

Creating a scheme, volume, drawing in pencil, ink, base color, light and shadow, special effects to complete a finish drawing. 

Anime Drawing " Chibi"    

Instructor: Tami Hughes

Ages 8+ 

Course Description:

Anime drawing class will cover all the basics: head & body, the brilliant eyes, the body proportions and more. But the instruction doesn’t end there. It moves on to costume and character design, action poses, special effects, perspective and staging stories in sequential panels. We will start off with different positions of the head. Continue with “Shoujo” eyes & expressions to hairstyles. Once we cover all these areas we will continue to body views.  Over the next few months we well continue to learn how to draw characters in motion.

During this drawing stages each student will also create and design their own character to develop into games cards/posters. Second half of the year will be designing and learning background, animals and creating a story line with their characters to move into comic novel/pages.

Dry Media (Drawing Level 2)  Instructor: Tami Hughes 

Ages 11+

Course Description: 

The course covers the reproduction of subject matter ranging from still life, nature, perspective, human forms, photographs, and the imagination. Learn the correct use of  dry mediums including Charcoal, Pastel, "Prismacolor" and more.

Wet Media ( Painting Level 1)  Instructor: Summer King  

Ages 8+

Course Description:

Painting Mediums: Oil Pastel, Acrylic & Watercolor

Entry-level painting course designed to familiarize students with the materials, technical approaches, and processes of painting. This progressive painting class focus is on developing painting skills from the fundamentals. Your child will learn basic techniques such as using and mixing colors and different techniques for applying paint. 

Course goals: Learn how to see your subject with an artist’s eye, capture inspiration and apply that to your canvas.
As your child advances, students will continue to explore color mixing and different paint application techniques, as well as interpreting correct values, color theory, and composition. Development of personal style is explored and encouraged.

Wet Media (Painting Level 2)  Instructor: Summer King

Age (Based on skill) 

Wet media including Acrylic, Watercolor and Oil pastels will be explored. 

Course Description:

Intermediate to advanced level. Through a series of exercises, assignments, and visual presentations, we will investigate color interaction, contextual relationships, conceptual and compositional strategies, and the relationship between (subject, content, meaning) and process.

Fashion Design & Illustration  Instructor: Summer King

Age 10+ 

Students will learn to create their own fashion collections. This course takes the student from  fashion project development from personal ideas to the actual presentation of the project. Students will learn technical skills such as sketching a fashion figure, sketching garments and how they fall on the body, learn how to use coloring media, such as markers, color pencils, collage techniques etc. and at the same time learn how to organize a collection from the research of trends to the creation of particular techniques used in fashion like “color cards “ and “mood boards” used to express in a visual way the feel and the style of the collection.

This 3-month course is meant to introduce students who are interested in art and drawing to the world of Fashion Illustration and Design. The goal at the end of our session is for each student to have a complete professional Fashion Designers portfolio with the Fashion croquis, fabric swatches & flats. A complete collection.

Basic Sewing Instructor: Kathy Carpentier

Age 10+

Course Description:     Have fun while you learn a life skill. This course is for both male and female students and covers basic clothing construction skills. This course introduces students to basic sewing and pressing equipment, textiles, techniques for constructing edge finishes, proper use of introductory level commercial patterns and basic project construction techniques. Projects to be made may include: Tote Bags, Aprons and more.

Still Life Drawing & Figure Drawing in charcoal

 

Course Description: 

. Beginner charcoal drawing course for adults.  In this progressive course, students begin with an introduction to charcoal from drawing exercises. This strengthens the ability to better comprehend our observing and drawing techniques. As they advance, students work from  simple still life arrangements,  drawing in willow charcoal Gradually students progress to more complex still life arrangements using both charcoal sticks and charcoal pencil. 

Figure Drawing: 

Gain an understanding of human anatomy, and to acquire a personal visual language of drawing from life. Through close observation of the human form the student will develop ways of seeing that goes beyond regular visual perception. The student will also expand the skills necessary for figure drawing executed in variety of dry or wet media. Draw form live models and drawing mannequins.
