Mosaic Minds Art Academy provides a unique and enriching experience for children who are passionate about the arts.                          Starts August 8, 2023
                           Ages 6+  6pm-7pm
                                  $75/ week                           

                        
Tuesdays: Comic Book Art/ Cartooning and Anime Drawing

Wednesdays: 3-D Art Enrichment. Each month students study a new artist for an Art History lesson. Students experiment with a variety of different mediums including clay, Papier Mache, 3-D art and sculpture, Printmaking etc. Emphasis on Art History, technique and terminology.

Thursdays: Painting Lessons Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor etc. Changes monthly. 

Fridays:  Introduction to Drawing. Beginner Drawing. Charcoal, Colored Pencil, Chalk Pastel and Graphite

  • Wet Media (Painting 101)                 4:30pm - 5:30pm

This entry-level painting course is designed to familiarize students with the materials, technical approaches, and processes of painting. This progressive painting class focus is on developing painting skills from the fundamentals. Your child will learn basic techniques such as using and mixing colors and different techniques for applying paint. Composition, placement and proportion are heavily emphasized in the first half of this class.  

This class encourages your child to "think like an artist" Painting prompts are given to broaden creativity. Students learn to "paint with a purpose". Thought provoking artwork is created. Oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor, gouache and mixed media painting. Each session ends with a student art exhibit for their class. 

Fundamentals of Art class is required before starting this class.

Supplies are not provided. Supply list will be provided.

                               Fundamentals of Art (Intro to Drawing)     

                                                                             

 In this beginner-intermediate course, students learn basic drawing techniques. Starting with a lesson on the correct use of the drawing tools. All students start with the apple drawing on the grid. Value, light and shadow exercises follow eventually advancing to using simple shapes to reproduce more difficult subjects. Students experiment with a variety of drawing tools, learning the correct use of dry mediums including charcoal, pastel, graphite and more.​ Students learn to draw from both reference and still life. Emphasis on light and shadow. 

Homework practice is assigned and expected to be completed by the next class. At least 30 minutes of daily at home drawing practice is recommended.

New students must join on the first Saturday of the new month.

Our most popular class, Anime drawing class will cover all the basics: head & gesture poses, the brilliant eyes, the body proportions and more. But the instruction doesn’t end there! It moves on to costume and character design, action poses, special effects, perspective and staging stories in sequential panels. During the drawing stages each student will create and design their own character to develop into games cards, posters, drawing on backpacks, canvas sneakers and more! Advanced students will be designing and learning background, animals and creating a story line with their characters to move into comic graphic novels/ Manga Books.

Saturdays

Advanced Drawing & Portfolio Development                                     3:00p-4:00p  
 
This course covers perspective, placement and proportion of objects in still life settings. Additionally, reproduction of subject matter ranging from sculpture, nature, human forms, photographs, and the imagination are explored. Students learn the correct use of dry mediums including Charcoal, Pastel, Conte Crayon and more. Each student works at their own individual pace with each class being progressive. Small class sizes of no more than 6-8 students. 
Practice homework is to be expected and sketchbooks are checked each week. At least 30 minutes of daily at home drawing practice is expected.
Portfolio Development students are offered priority to participate in a variety of local and national drawing competitions, some with cash prizes.

Internship opportunities.
Assistance with professional portfolio presentation.

New students receive a sketchbook and set of drawing pencils with registration.

  • Private Portfolio Preparation                               By Appointment 

           

Art Portfolio Submission Assistance or Portfolio Prep is for those that wish to attend an arts focused high school or University. Students should start building their portfolios early into their drawing lessons in order to prevent last minute stress and providing a variety of artwork options.

We will help guide each student through the process, devoting personalized time between teacher and student. Depending on the level of artistic skill and timing of application some students may require extra classes. Homework is to be expected in all portfolio related classes.

Private Sessions must be booked at least 3 weeks in advance.

Minimum of 4 sessions must be reserved. 

Ages 12+
